IMPORTANT!!! This diagram is, indeed, pretty detailed. YOU MUST STILL READ AND FOLLOW YOUR USER/INSTALLATION MANUAL WHEN INSTALLING THIS EQUIPMENT. In case of an error in the diagram above, your user manual will always superscede the diagram you see on this page.

Known issues with the diagram above:

  • The shunt in the diagram is backwards. On the side of the shunt, there is a label that says which side goes to the battery and which side goes to the load. Please follow the orientation on the side of the shunt.
  • The shore power cord has a male plug on both ends. Shore power extension cords do not have male plugs on each end. This would be incredibly dangerous. Please do not splice a shore power cord so there is a male on each end. The shore power cord in the parts list below is accurate and has a male end on one side and a female end on the other.

Hi again, Nate! I know you have experience with the AIMS inverter and am curious if I would follow the same wiring sizes if I used the AIMS 2000 watt inverter instead of Victron. I was able to find that the AC input/output could be the same. I'm just not sure about the DC. Thanks!

Hi Nate, What exactly is the farthest left, negative wire running from the mppt controller to the negative busbar for? I'm not exactly sure where to place the lug on the screw to the side. There's a stop nut, and a small copper piece. Should I put it behind both of these pieces, in the middle or behind the screw? Hope this question makes some sense. Thanks!

Nate Yarbrough

That is the equipment ground. The lug should contact the metal of the equipment case directly.

Hi Nate, for my solar set-up I will have the 250/85 Victron charge controller. I understand that in this diagram, it's not using that one so I'm curious if you can help me understand if i need to size up my wires coming out of the charge controller or any other components that may need changed according this? I've never done anything solar before, but your series is insane. I feel so comfortable going into this, because of what you've made. Thank you so much!!

Nate Yarbrough

Sure! For that, I'd recommend using 2 AWG Wire (for the positive, negative, and equipment ground) between the charge controller and busbar protected by a 150A fuse.

Hi. We’re currently piecing together a 900w 400 amp hour system. We have (2) 200 amp hour batteries. Is there a wrong way to correct these together and to the system? Might be a silly question, but I don’t want to blow anything up. Our system came second hand so putting together all the random bits and piece has been tricky.

Nate Yarbrough

Monday 13th of July 2020

If you connected 12v batteries in series (Which would make 24v) or in reverse polarity, it would, indeed, harm the system.

Sunday 28th of June 2020

Hello! On the list you have Alternator Charging Qty: – LI-BIM 225 Isolator Connects and Disconnects House and Starting Battery Banks But it looks like that's included in the Bundle, or do I need two of them?

Nate Yarbrough

Sunday 5th of July 2020

You just need one of those.
